Quercus rubra
While Red Oak grows best on deep, fertile, well-drained but moist, fine-textured soils, with a relatively high water table, it may be found growing on many other soils as well, from clay to gravel to stony, thin ground. It is a moderately shade-tolerant and long lived tree. Dark green foliage in the summer turns a beautiful fall colour of red in the fall. They will eventually produce acorns.
